How do I verify that I am registered?
To verify the fact that you are registered, you can obtain information from the Secretary of State.
You may search by one of three methods:
your Voter Unique Identifier (VUID) which appears on your voter registration certificate;
your Texas driver's license number, if you provided it when you applied for voter registration; or
your first and last name.
What if I've changed my name?
You have three (3) different methods of updating your new name:

What if I've moved recently?
You must be registered at your new address thirty (30) days prior to an election. You have three (3) different methods of updating your new address:
Online Address Changes
If you have moved within the county, you may change your name or address online. Take advantage of this service provided by the Secretary of State.
In Person
Address or name changes may be made in our office located at:

Sign your name and fill out the spaces provided with your new address. Mail certificate to the following address:

Can I vote by mail?
To vote by mail, you must request a ballot for each election. To be eligible to vote by mail in Texas, you must:
be 65 years or older;
be disabled;
be out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance; or
be confined in jail, but otherwise eligible.

What if I'm in the Military or I live overseas?
You are required to complete a Federal Post Card Application. Applications are available online (FVAP.ORG) or through your commanding officer. Mail completed registration applications to:

Applications are good for two (2) federal elections and ballots will be mailed automatically. Please complete a new application if you move.
What is a Suspended Voter?
If our office has received returned mail from you, your name will appear on a list of Suspended Voters; however, you are still a registered voter.
Why is being a Suspended Voter so bad?
You will not receive a new voter registration certificate.
After two (2) federal elections you will be deleted from the Voter Registration rolls.
Please choose from the following options to correct your information:
Online Address Change
Update your information online. You will need your VUID number and information off of your driver's license.

By Mail Using Old Certificate
On the backside of your old certificate, sign your name and list your new address in the spaces provided. Mail old certificate to: PO BOX 1047, Mt Vernon, TX 75457
By Mail Without Old Certificate
Request an application be mailed to you; in which case you would then return the application to PO BOX 1047, Mt Vernon, TX 75457
Voting as a College Student
Your voter registration is tied to where you reside. As a college student, you need to register at the address where you currently reside, which could be your college address or your family’s address.
If your college address is not your residence:
-Ensure your registration is Active at your home address. Your registration is tied to your residence, allowing you to vote in all local, state, and federal elections in the county where you’re registered.
If your college address is your residence
-Your new residence is in another County in the State of Texas
- You must re-register in your new County by completing any of the following.
- Complete an application and mail it or take it in person to the voter registrar of your new county.
- Update your Voter Registration Information Online. When the voter’s current county of registration receives notice of this update, the registrar shall forward this notice and the voter’s application to the new
county in which the voter resides.
- Send a written request for changes via E-Mail or Mail to the Voter Registrar.
Please include your current details, such as full name, date of birth, address, and VUID (if available), in your request. Additionally, provide the new information you’re updating to.
If your new residence is in a State outside of Texas
- You must re-register in your new County/State by completing any of the following.

If you consider your family’s address as your residence but will be outside your home county during Early Voting and on Election Day, you may qualify to vote by mail.

If you’re a U.S. citizen studying abroad, you can register and vote using a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA). The FPCA helps U.S. citizens overseas request absentee ballots from their home state election officials.
